Oakland Athletics (23-26) vs. Los Angeles Angels (25-25) Betting Odds from Bookmaker
Moneyline: Angels (-113) Athletics (-107)
Total: 7
Starting Pitchers: Athletics (Cahill) vs. Angels (Santana)
The Oakland Athletics snapped a six-game losing streak by beating the Los Angeles Angels 6-1 last night. The Angels took the first game of this series, so we will see who can take game three of this four-game set. We’ve got a nice pitching matchup for tonight’s game in Los Angeles.
Trevor Cahill is on the mound for Oakland in this one. Cahill sports a 6-1 record and a 1.79 ERA this year. He has been consistently great, and I would argue that Cahill is the Athletics best pitcher. This Oakland team struggles in a big way offensively. The Athletics average just 3.59 runs per game, which is 26th in the majors. They are second to last in the majors with only 27 home runs as a team so far this season. Luckily for Oakland, they do have a tremendous pitching staff. Oakland ranks first in the majors with a team ERA of just 2.86. While the pitching staff is great, the defense has committed 37 errors already this year, which has lost them several close games.
The Los Angeles Angels sit at exactly .500 50 games into the season. The Angels are 12-12 at home and 13-13 on the road so far this year. The Angels are ninth in the majors in team batting average at .257, but they are just 23rd in runs scored per game at 3.88. This is a team that has really struggled to come up with a clutch hit with runners in scoring position. The pitching staff has been very good, which has allowed them to stay afloat despite their poor offensive production. If this team is going to compete in the AL West, they are going to need Bobby Abreu and Torii Hunter to pick up their production offensively.
Athletics vs. Angels Free Pick:
Play on Under 7
*3 Star MLB Free Play* Trevor Cahill has been one of the most underrated starters in the big leagues the last couple years. He is consistently very good, largely because he has great command of all of his pitches. Cahill has a 1.79 ERA so far in 2011, and he has only allowed more than two earned runs in one of his ten starts this year! Ervin Santana is a fairly streaky pitcher, but he has always been much better at home. Santana pitched a complete game shutout in his last outing. The under is 4-0-1 in Cahill’s lsat 5 starts against the Angels. The under is 13-6 in Santana’s last 19 starts against Oakland. Take the under!
