It’s time for a free MLB pick for the Cardinals and Reds game tonight.
St. Louis Cardinals (22-16) vs. Cincinnati Reds (20-17) MLB Betting Lines
Moneyline: Reds (-119) Cardinals (+109)
Over/Under: 8.5
Starting Pitchers: Cardinals (Lohse) vs. Reds (Arroyo)
The National League Central has started out the same way it ended last season, with the Cardinals and the Reds battling it out for the top spot. Right now it is the Cardinals who have the upper hand by a game and a half. The Cardinals took two out of three from the Reds at Busch Stadium earlier this year. Now, the Reds will try to return the favor in a three-game series at Great American Ballpark.
If I told you that the Cardinals have the top rated offense in the majors you would problably assume that Albert Pujols is having a monster year, but that isn’t the case at all. The Cardinals are the top ranked offense despite a poor year for Pujols compared to his normal standards. It has been the hitting of Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman that has catapulted this team into the top spot. Holliday is hitting .390 with five home runs, while Berkman is hitting .357 with ten home runs already this year. The Cardinals are first in the majors in runs scored per game, OPS, and team batting average. Starting pitching has been solid for the Cardinals, but the bullpen is a bit of a concern.
The Cincinnati Reds went 4-2 on their recent road trip to Chicago and Houston. The Reds are no slouch at the plate, as they rank third in the majors in runs scored per game. Last year’s National League MVP, Joey Votto, has been crushing the baseball once again in 2011. Votto is hitting .349 and his on-base percentage is an amazing .469. Brandon Phillips has been red hot as well. Phillips is hitting .313 this year, and he continues to be the best defensive second baseman in the game. Bronson Arroyo is the Reds most consistent starting pitcher, and they’ll look to him to get things started out right tonight.
Cardinals vs. Reds MLB Free Pick: Reds ML
Kyle Lohse hasn’t been very good on the road in his career, and I think the Reds can get to him tonight. Arroyo has fared well against most of these Cardinals hitters. The Reds should be rested up after a day off yesterday. I like the Reds to win this one.
