Green Bay Packers vs. Cleveland Browns Betting Odds from BetOnline
NFL Betting Spread: Browns -2.5 (-110) Packers +2.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Browns (-140) Packers (+120)
Total: 35
The Green Bay Packers are fresh off a trip to the White House to meet with President Barack Obama on Friday after last year’s Super Bowl victory. The Packers 31-25 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV was the team’s 13th Super Bowl. There is definitely a reason this place is called TitleTown. The Packers roster remains largely the same as last year’s, but there are a few minor changes. Derek Sherrod was a nice first round pick, and he should help shore up the offensive line. Keep an eye on Randall Cobb, who was the Packers second round draft pick. Cobb has the ability to become a great play maker for this team. The Packers lost Aaron Kampman, Nick Barnett, Brandon Jackson, and Cullen Jenkins. Overall, the team will have a very similar feel to it in the season ahead.
The Cleveland Browns hired a new head coach in January. Pat Shurmur will be the man in control on the sidelines this year. The team seems to be taking some positive steps toward becoming a winning franchise once again. Mike Holmgren knows what he is doing as he leads the team, and the Browns are bound to get back on a winning path at some point with him in the front office. Colt McCoy outperformed expectations last year, and I fully expect him to have another solid season. The real breakout star from last year was Peyton Hillis. Hillis is a hard working running back who simply won’t go down on initial contact. The Browns have a good offensive line that should protect McCoy well and open up holes for Hillis. On the defensive side, there are plenty of question marks, but the Browns do have some very talented youngsters in the secondary. Don’t be surprised if Joe Haden is a perennial Pro Bowler before long.
Packers vs. Browns Free Pick: Over 35
The Packers have a very good defense, but I don’t expect the first team defense to play much at all in this one. Last year these two teams met in the first preseason game and the final was 27-24 in Lambeau. The Browns will likely be playing the starters on offense a little longer than normal so Shurmur can see where everyone stands on the depth chart. I like the over.
