Coming into the year the Hurricanes had such high hopes. Only to get them crushed by starting off to an awful start to the season. It seems the road is only going to get tougher as they come into this matchup 2-3 on the year. On the other hand we have a much improved Virginia team coming into this matchup being a top 25 contender. Looking to carry some momentum down to Miami.
Virginia- Virginia enters this game with a 4-1 record as it lost to Notre Dame two weeks ago before having week six off. Virginia actually led at halftime in that game before eventually losing by 15 points due to some sloppy play in the second half. However, they are still ranked in the top-20 and it will definitely need to continue its winning ways on Friday if they want to remain ranked in week eight. Leading the Cavaliers offensively will be senior quarterback Bryce Perkins who has been solid so far this season. Specifically, since he has 1,177 passing yards along with eight passing touchdowns. In addition, he also has 164 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns so he does possess a lot of dual-threat ability. However, Perkins has also been very turnover prone as he has thrown six interceptions. With a very athletic defense up next, he will need to do a better job at limiting turnovers. Cavaliers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in October as well as 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games on grass.
Miami- Manny Diaz has the Hurricanes in terrible form headed into this game. After entering the season with hopes of potentially competing for a conference title, Miami has already imploded and is now entering this game with a losing record. Specifically, Miami got embarrassed at home by Virginia Tech last week as its supposedly solid defense gave up a whopping 42 points. As a result, this game is crucial for the program as a 2-4 start could lead to a potential disaster as Miami might not qualify for a bowl game. At quarterback, Diaz announced that N’Kosi Perry will start after tossing for 422
yards against Virginia Tech. He entered that game as a backup late in the first quarter and wound up with four touchdowns and one pick. This line is a bit sketchy considering the fact that a ranked team is currently an underdog to an unranked team but I think there is a mismatch in this game. Miami’s defense just got embarrassed last week by an average Virginia Tech team so I question just how good this unit truly is. Hurricanes are 1-11 ATS in their last 12 games in October. Hurricanes are 2-9 ATS against teams with winning records.
